What We Believe

ThePo!nt was started with a simple vision to connect with people and introduce them to God. As this vision is matured and grown we are specifically motivated to have a lasting impact in our community, city and surrounding locations. Half of the members of ThePo!nt live in St Andrews, so our vision has stretched out from the initial focus of Dundee to the Tayside area.

We believe that life is here to celebrate. Celebration connects people and has a power to carry us through when things are tough. Everybody finds their own cause to celebrate. For us, our cause and our reason has come from our experience of God and our ongoing journey with Him learning about the purpose He has for us, individually, as families, communities, as a city and a nation. From the loneliness of one, to the anger, fear and life controlling addictions of another, we all have things to get over in life, and we all have to choose our belief systems, know why we believe them and have a confidence in them.

Below are our core values here at ThePo!nt, along with our statement of faith, what we believe and why we believe it.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Bible is a book that records not only history but more importantly the relationships God had with men and women from the beginning of time. It shows us principles and patterns to live our lives by that continues to help us. These can be spiritual or natural - it's a handbook for life. The Bible also clearly shows us how God feels about us individually - the plans and purposes He has for us, the protections He has already set up for us to make it easier.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

The Godhead

God is available to us in three ways. He is our heavenly Father, our creator. He designed us and planned great things for our lives. He became a human being, called Jesus, to save us from all the effects of years and years of mistakes and bad choices that had caused, and continue to cause, major problems in society including mankind ignoring God and His plans and desires for them. He is now available to us through His Holy Spirit - after Jesus returned home to Heaven, God left us a helper and teacher, who is always available for those who will give him a place in their lives.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

The Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus' Spirit was born of God and His body born of Mary. That is how He was totally God and totally human. Jesus lived His life without sinning. He did everyday things that we do, worked, socialised, etc., but chose not to sin. He helped us see how we could be if we chose to. Jesus being crucified as an innocent person was one point in history that will never ever stop affecting us. Jesus' death allowed us to have a one-to-one relationship with Father God again. Not to mention that we don't have to live with sickness, hurt, pain, or bondage.
(John 1:1-2, 14)

Salvation

Salvation is our own choice to believe and say out loud that Jesus wasn't just a historical figure, but someone sent by God to rescue us. When we accept help from God and take a hold of salvation, we are delivered from living under "fate", and move into living in "faith". When we continue to make choices in our lives that are in agreement with our salvation, we can very quickly start to see how we are being supernaturally "preserved", body, mind and soul. True salvation results in a changed lifestyle and character.
(Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:18-19)

Communion

Communion is celebrated in all Christian churches. There are other names like, "The Lord's Supper", "Breaking of Bread", "The Eucharist" (meaning thanksgiving). Unfortunately, for many, communion has become a superstitious, religious ritual, with some people believing that the bread actually becomes Jesus' flesh and the wine His blood. Jesus told us to celebrate communion with the purpose of remembering Him and what He has done. Communion allows us to refocus on why we believe in Jesus, what we're believing for in our lives and to re-strengthen our faith, so we can see victory in our lives rather than defeat. Communion is simply remembering Jesus and everything He was on Earth. It does not need to only be done in church; everytime we sit with people and discuss Jesus and our lives with Him we're having communion.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Baptism in the Holy Spirit is essential to any change we want to see in our lives. It is our spirit that have been saved into eternity and so it's our spirit that needs to have a strong, free relationship with God. Allowing the Holy Spirit to be in us is what quickens our learning and our faith. The Holy Spirit is our teacher in the Bible. He gives us understanding in areas where we struggle allowing clarity where there is otherwise confusion, and He makes our relationship with Father God real. There is a tangible presence to the Holy Spirit which we all need.

Water Baptism

Water baptism is a command by Jesus and was given so we could have a physical example and experience of what has happened inside of us. Baptism is a public statement of the death of old lifestyle and ways and the embracing of a new life.

Jesus Heals

God created us and breathed life into us, therefore God is the only one who can effectively heal and restore us. If you bring a Porsche to a Skoda dealership for a service, your Porsche might run but not as well as it was designed to. If you've not allowed God into your life, your body and health are subject to their natural environment, whereas when you do allow Him in, you live life under His spiritual environment where there is protection for what we have and healing power for what is lost or damaged. God always releases healing to those who believe, but it is our responsibility to have lives that can receive the healing. Unforgiveness, bitterness, critical/gossiping spirit, unbelief, fear, pride, sin, rebellion, etc., are all factors that can hinder or stop healing.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

In every person God has placed gifts that can only be unlocked by the spirit. The gifts in each person differ. They were designed by God to be used by God. But since Adam and Eve went against God and the long-term result being our freedom of choice, many people use their God given gifts but don't understand where they come from, therefore they'll use the first spirit that comes along. Hence clairvoyants, fortune tellers, etc. - they can be very accurate but are opening a very dangerous door over themselves and those that come to them. We operate in the Spirit of God which is a covering and a protection around our lives. Everything that is of God can only bless us, and can never harm us.
